We're looking for a Duty Manager
Location: BlocHaus Climbing LTD, Openshaw, Manchester, UK.
Contract Type: Full-time or Part-time
Start Date: Immediate
Pay Rate: £13.21 – £15.21 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
We’re looking for a confident and hands on, Duty Manager to join our team at Blochaus Climbing.
This is a practical, people facing role at the heart of a busy bouldering centre; ideal for someone who enjoys leading shifts, working with customers, and being actively involved in the day-to-day running of a facility.
About Us
Blochaus Climbing is an independent bouldering wall in Manchester, focused on creating a welcoming environment for everyone; from first-time climbers to experienced regulars.
We take pride in our route setting, customer experience, and the overall atmosphere in the centre, and we’re always looking to improve what we do.
The Role
As Duty Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day running of the centre during your shifts. You’ll act as a key point of contact for both staff and customers, helping ensure everything runs smoothly and to a high standard.
We’re a small team, so this role requires someone who is happy to get involved across all areas of the business and enjoys a varied, hands-on working day.
Key Responsibilities
Open and close the centre
Lead shifts and support reception and instructor teams
Ensure daily checks, cleaning, and maintenance tasks are completed to standard
Deliver a high level of customer service and support customers on-site
Carry out front of house duties, including check-ins and serving food and drink
Act as a point of reference for operational standards and procedures
Provide first aid support where required
Support general centre operations and tasks as needed
What We're Looking For
Experience in a climbing centre, gym, or similar customer-facing environment
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
Strong communication and customer service skills
Reliable, organised, and able to take responsibility during shifts
Willingness to work a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
A proactive attitude and willingness to get stuck in
Desirable (not essential):
First Aid qualification
Experience with Rock Gym Pro
Climbing instruction experience
Scope for Additional Responsibility
As a small and growing business, there is opportunity for the right candidate to take on additional responsibility beyond the core Duty Manager role.
We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience in, or an interest in developing into, any of the following areas:
HR / People Management: supporting recruitment, onboarding, and staff development
Community Engagement & Partnerships: building relationships with local groups, organisations, and the wider climbing community
Café / Retail Operations: contributing to the development and performance of our café and shop offering
Events & Competitions: helping plan and deliver events, socials, and competitions
Climbing Instruction: delivering sessions, coaching, or supporting our instructional offering
This is not essential for the role, but for the right person there is genuine scope to shape the position and expand responsibilities over time.
Basic Info
3 to 5 days per week (22.5 to 37.5 hours)
£13.21 to £15.21 per hour, depending on experience and suitability for the additional responsibilities.
28 days holiday per year (pro rata)
Closing date: When we find a suitable candidate!

Free barista drinks on shift.
Annual bonus linked to company performance.
