Haus Party 2022

On Saturday the 13th of August we held the first annual Haus Party bouldering competition here at Blochaus Climbing, Manchester.

The event celebrated the centres 1st birthday and attracted climbers of all ages and abilities from across the north-west and much further afield, for both a fun filled day and a hotly contested competition.

The format of the competition involved a qualifying round of 25 boulder problems with the 5 best scoring male and female competitors going through to an Olympic style final.

For the qualifiers, our amazing in-house setters came up with some super creative problems which saw a mixture of styles and also included some ‘wildcard’ problems to keep the competitors on their toes! These included a no hands slab and a rope swing.

We had an amazing turn out and there was something for everyone; so, if you just wanted your own Haus Party t-shirt or some cracking street food you were just as well catered for as those wanting to test themselves with the climbing challenges.

Once the scores had been counted, those who had finished their days effort could chill out with food and a beer whilst the 10 finalists prepared themselves for the serious stuff. A strongly contested final in both the male and female categories created an amazing live show of talent, with local ‘wad’ Ben Hargreaves walking away with first place for the males and U18 GB development team member Jessica Claxton-Daniels taking home first place for the females.

Throughout the day we had amazing toasties and chips provided by So Toasted, we were also joined by Psychi who were showcasing their quality climbing gear and apparel and there was free Tenzing available to keep the competitors fuelled. Impressive spot prizes including chalk buckets, bags and clothing were given away with the podium places winning bouldering mats, climbing shoes or rucksacks. This was made possible by being able to work with other amazing climbing companies including, Core Climbing, Beyond Hope, Mountain Equipment, Moon Climbing and Psychi. A further shout out to Kong Climbing who kindly lent us a generous selection of holds and macros to up the setting creativity further.
