Haus Party 2023

On Saturday 29th July we hosted our second annual Haus Party bouldering competition here at Blochaus Climbing, Manchester.

The event celebrated the centres 2nd birthday and attracted climbers of all ages and abilities from across the north-west and much further afield, for both a fun filled day and a hotly contested competition.

The format of the competition involved a qualifying round of 30 boulder problems; made up of 25 qualifier problems and 5 Party Blocs with the 5 best scoring male and female competitors going through to an Olympic style final.

For the qualifiers, our amazing setting team came up with some absolute bangers! With the inclusion of the Party Blocs, we even had GB team members cartwheeling their way to the finals!

The turn out this year was phenomenal making this event the Biggest we have hosted here at BlocHaus Climbing, with all competitors receiving a limited-edition t-shirt, make sure you keep your eyes peeled and ask them how awesome Haus Party 2023 was! Don’t just believe our word.

Popping up at the event to keep us fed was our friends ‘Icarus and Apollo’, experts in tasty veggie/vegan street food. Serving up west African peanut curry, Sri Lankan Dahl, naked burritos and hot dogs; even the hard core meat eaters were happy and left craving more!

While the finalists were getting ready to tackle the serious stuff, us mere mortals had a bit of time to relax, laugh and for those who had finished climbing; sample locally brewed beers while preparing ourselves for the amazing live finals to come.

In the finals, both the male and female categories showed everyone why they were there; the pure strength, dedication and talent across all ages was insane. The nail-biting men’s final saw Jack Holguin take home first place by knocking Ben Hargreave from pole position, with a difference of one attempt as they both topped the same amount of final Blocs. Whereas in the female finals we saw Jen Wood absolutely dominate and walk away with first place, followed by Emily Chan in second who is the youngest person to make any finals at BlocHaus being aged just 13. Our U16-category was calculated on the qualifier scores which saw Harrison Jones and Sam Stansfield walk away with joint first place.

Events like this can’t be made possible without great partners such as ‘Psychi Climbing’ who kindly contributed to the spot / finalist prizes and joined us for the event to showcase their quality climbing gear and apparel. Giving everyone the chance to win some awesome swag including chalk bags, buckets, clothing and even a few slacklines.

The day had such an amazing atmosphere and it was great to see lots of new faces join the BlocHaus community and come together to climb, eat, drink, laugh and celebrate our 2nd birthday in style.

Huge shout out to the small team of amazing staff that managed to pull off this amazing event and we would like to wish Ellen the best of luck on her next adventure as Haus Party 23 marked her final day with us.

Thanks for everyone who turned up and we are already looking forward to Haus Party 2024! Until then make sure you stay up to date with upcoming events by visiting our event page on the website.
